  • geoffrey CLARKE (RA) "Traversing the Palm"

    From March 15 2008


    Medals from the artist's studio. This is the first commercial showing of medals which Geoffrey Clarke began to make from 1973 and is an opportunity to see and acquire duplicate medals. It includes 6 unique aluminium medals made in February 2008 and one, 'Centaur' which is being produced in bronze in an edition of 15.


    The British Museum and other public collections hold these medals.


    A catalogue essay with copious illustrations is available. The text is based on a lecture given by Dr Judith LeGrove to the British Medal Society.

    An exhibition of thirteen paintings by Wilhelmina Barns-Graham organised for the college by strand gallery and curated by Mel Gooding. Running in parallel with new sculptures by Jonathan Clarke.

    There will be a catalogue written by Judith LeGrove to accompany this exhibition detailing Clarke's work in the field of design.

    Sculptures by Guido de Zan and works on paper by Andrew Vass.

    Guido is an italian sculptor worksing in ceramic and this will be the first time his work has been shown in the uk - he plays with perspective - making 3D objects appear 2D.

    Venice as a source of inspiration, techniques and makers: less well-known aspects. To accompany the Aldeburgh Festival's production of Britten's 'Death in Venice'.


    Paintings by Tessa Newcomb; etchings made by international printmakers in Venice; glass from Danish makers using Venetian techniques as well as murano glass and jewellery. Some new work by Jonathan Clarke using glass with his trademark aluminium.


    Sandra Blow's latest etching 'Upward Movement' commissioned by the gallery and proofed by her before her death is available for the first time.
